You think it stops with the Resident Evil series? You silly child...
Capcom has entered negotiations with several Hollywood studios, hoping to bring many of their trademark franchises to the big screen(again). Even the President of Capcom Co., Haruhiro Tsjuimoto, seems excited.
``We want to do with games what Marvel did with comics,'' Tsjuimoto said in a Bloomberg television interview.
. But Capcom forgets one thing, most videogame movies suck. Actually, let me correct that, all videogame movies suck(yes, the whole Resident Evil series). I even believe that most gamers still remember the tragedy that was the last Street Fighter movie. Yet, when they come out with a "Devil May Cry" movie, I'll still go see it.
Just to entertain the thought, what Capcom games would you like to see get the Hollywood treatment? Or are you just like me, and think that they should just stick with making more "Street Fighter" games.
Three minutes of chainsaw dueling, Locust killing, testosterone filled action. Oh, and about a minute of Cliffy B talking..about..something...I just muted that part.
Resident Evil 5 has caused a firestorm of controversy, with it’s trailer of Chris Redfield( a white man) extinguishing a virus threat in Africa. Of course Africa has a history, one that should not be forgotten when making such a game. N’Gai Croal touched on this subject in an interview with MTV Multiplayer. However, my accusation mostly has nothing to do with RE5 itself, but with the nature of outrage in my community.
To myself, and I stress the word myself, it seems that a greater insult to the Black community is the way we are portrayed in other games. Games that glorify the underbelly of our community and the very things that tether out legs like anchors. Granted, games are just games, but if we are to engage RE5 with such scrutiny and ignore more pressing issues in the industry, then we are truly the ones ignorant.
These games are more racist and insulting than RE5 could ever hope to be.
I'll be honest here, I avoid movie-based game like the plague. The only one I have ever enjoyed was the Spiderman games, and even then I only played it for a few days. So when Sierra announced they were creating a game based off of the Jason Bourne franchise, I tried my best to not get excited.
....and failed.
So as you can imagine, I screamed with glee when I found out the demo for "Bourne Conspiracy" has hit Xbox live. (PS3 users will have to wait until May 8.)
The game promises to go beyond the books and recent trilogy of films. What makes it even harder to avoid this game is the inclusion of screenwriter Tony Gilroy.
Gilroy is the original writer credited for the Bourne movies and in my opinion did an excellent job taking the book to silver screen.
Oh...and you can kill guys with a pen, which is always a plus.
So go download the demo and leave a comment. I'm still scared that Sierra may ruin my favorite action hero.
Remember that game I spotlighted a while back, showcasing a video of a man punching through some poor bastards?
Well it's been delayed.
Prototype, Sierra Games stab at open-world game play, has been delayed to a 2009 release date. Gamespot got in contact with a Sierra representative, who said something that we have been hearing a lot of lately.
"....we need more time to deliver the game the team initially set out to create...."
I could have sworn we have heard this before with EA's "Army of Two". Hopefully, "Prototype" actually does get some polish and is worth the wait. God knows "Army of Two" didn't add enough gloss to hide it's shortcomings.
As yes, thee days after the release of GTA IV and the gaming world is slowly...slowly spinning once more. Regardless, news is still pretty sour right now..seeing how everyone and their mother is jumping over GTA controversy.
In the three days straight that I have been playing GTAIV I have realized one thing. No, it's not that I can get on top of the highest building and take down helicopters(as fun as that is). It's the sheer size of Liberty City, it's stuffed full of content.
Taking a look at the packaged map does nothing. So it's good that IGN has mapped out Liberty City using a Google map application. Users are allowed to enter content as they discover it, adding tabs onto the map to help fellow players. Tags include locations of missions, easter eggs, and even the ladies of night.
It's extremely helpful and if you have a hard time finding that prime spot to do some serious damage, give this map a little look.
